I draw inspiration from the natural world, where the ebb and flow of the ocean and the organic patterns of nature have a mesmerizing effect on our senses. "Buy Me a Mockingbird" is a visual representation of this abstract language, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in a sensory experience that transports them into the arms of nature.
This striking piece is a reflection of my commitment to Japanese aesthetics, specifically the principles of Wabi Sabi and Ma. Wabi Sabi celebrates the beauty of impermanence and imperfection, a concept that is deeply rooted in the natural world. Ma, on the other hand, is a Japanese term that refers to negative space. In my work, I am intentional about creating spaces between forms, areas of quiet, and emptiness, much like the pauses between sentences. These negative spaces allow the viewer to appreciate the subtle beauty of the piece, while also adding a sense of depth and complexity.
